3 Reasons Why You Should Sod Your Lawn

hydroseed - el dorado hillsNow that spring is in full swing, thoughts of having a beautiful green lawn is on many homeowners’ minds. If your spring lawn is in need of a major overhaul or maybe you are starting from scratch with a newly built home, you may be wondering whether sod or seed would be your best option.

Here are three reasons why you should choose sod instead of seed for your Sacramento lawn:

#1 – A Sod Lawn Costs Less than Seeding a Lawn

You may think that the initial expense for sod is more expensive than seed. However, when you add up all the costs that come with seeding your lawn, such as over-seeding, extra fertilization and weed control, you will see that it costs more than sod. When you choose to go with sod, you just have to pay for the sod, its installation and water.

#2 – Instant Gratification

When you choose sod instead of seed, you have an instant lush spring lawn. With seed, it can seem like it is forever before you have a lawn that you can be proud of instead of a muddy mess. When the seed eventually grows, you may find yourself having to deal with bare patches that will require additional seeding and the waiting process starts over again.

#3 – A Sod Lawn is Healthier than a Seeded Lawn

Sod is professionally grown using good quality soil and optimal amounts of water and fertilization that is needed for its growth. The grass in sod has stronger roots that what you can grow in your own yard. Over time, a sod lawn will remain looking great and will not require reseeding as a seeded lawn eventually will because the seeds used in sod are sown closely together.
