Does Your Lawn Need Replacing?

Sacramento lawn care requires a delicate touch. From constant rain to summer droughts, Sacramento sod needs hardiness to survive. If your landscape looks dry and dead this season, it may be time for a serious lawn overhaul.

Does Your Lawn Need Replacing?

grass shoot in dessertSometimes its difficult to tell if your lawn is six feet under or merely hibernating. These are a few signs that your sod needs replacing:

  • Thin, patchy grass
  • Bare spots that won’t grow back
  • Invasive weeds or pest problems
  • A landscape layout that doesn’t work with your family’s lifestyle (as proven by dog spots and bare patches from heavy foot traffic)
  • Little lawn improvement after aeration and dethatching
  • A grass variety that can’t thrive in its environment

Landscape Renovation 101

Despite what many Californians believe, lawns provide environmental benefits, even during a drought. Sod helps control erosion, reduces water runoff, and limits home energy consumption. In many cases, the solution to a drought is not to eliminate your lawn, but to choose your plants more wisely. If you’re worried about using too much water on your lawn, design a combination landscape with turfgrass, native plants, and hardscape elements. Choose a hardy sod variety that can withstand the Sacramento climate (we recommend Dwarf Fescue Bluegrass for most lawns). Before sodding or seeding, kill any grass or weeds in your yard, till the soil, and add fertilizer for quick establishment of new grass. Follow our Preparation and Lawn Care guide to establish healthy grass fast in any environment.
