Hydroseeding is a planting process that uses a mixture of seed and mulch. It’s a good erosion control technique and is an easy alternative to dry seed.
What are the advantages & benefits of hydroseeding?
Hydorseeding has number of benefits. While laying sod certainly has its perks, hydroseeding has a number of advantages if you have a time constraint and more challenging area to cover.
- Hydroseeded lawns come up faster than traditional dry seed. By faster we mean within 3-5 days you should expect to see the germination cycle begin. The contact of seedling with water begins the germination cycle.
- Appearance: Hydroseeding uses mulch to cover the surface during the germination cycle. Mulch tends to have a higher level of attraction compared to traditional dry seeded lawns covered with straw mulch.
- An ideal perk of hydroseeding is that the mulch used in hydrosseding contains no weed seed. When you see the first hint of green, it will be grass, not weeds. The straw used in traditional dry seeding can be loaded with weed seed and often cause weed growth.
- Hydroseeding has the benefit of allowing the custom tailoring of the proper seed for your property. Shaded or sunny seedlings can be used simultaneously to best cover your yard space. Seedlings for shady areas can be paired with those for high traffic and high sunlight exposure to create green grass you desire.
- Hydroseeding mulch adds to the humus content of a lawn as it decomposes. The bacterial action of straw will leach nitrogen from the soil as it decomposes. Simply put, the mulch will have a continuous growth effect.
